At the first horizontal glance, the chair creates an optical phenomenon which amuses our logic and changes our initial visual perception of the object. However, looking at it in more detail, the creativity behind this piece of furniture comes to light: this single chair is made up ten more progressively smaller chairs placed within each other.

The hand cut grooves, which range from 1/2” inches to 1/8” inches wide, ease the sliding in of each successively smaller chair. The chairs can then be taken apart and put back together easily, combining functionality and design .

Some may have turned their lights off on Earth Day, April 22nd. Phillips, however, took it a notch further by launching a next generation energy-saving light bulb. Back in 2011, the cutting edge bulb won the Netherlands based lighting giant a good $10 million from the L Prize, a technology competition, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. The new product is officially released at the price of $60, yet immediately reduced to $50, with the promise that soon it will cost no more than $30. Numero 9 is the new concept car designed in the Citroen workshop. It will be presented at the Beijing Motor Show on the 24th of April. With its elegance, safety and functionality, this car marks a new direction in design when it comes to this French company.

This particular model is made with elements of a coupe and an estate. Passengers will have extra comfort on backseat, which is, for example, very important for the Chinese market. The car is 4.93m long, 1.94m wide, it’s height is only 1.27m, while the wheelbase is exactly 3m. Particular attention was paid to the aerodynamic efficiency (CdA = 0.61) and because of that, there are special features: a rear spoiler that reinforces the fastback effect, windscreen pillars which enhance efficiency of air flow around the car and ‘Turbine’ wheels with integrated fins to increase the air flow around the wheel arches. The frontal profile  is specifically striking, with a dominant grille framed in chrome and LED headlamps.

Depending on the market, there are versions with combined conventional petrol or diesel engine with an electric motor. At the Beijing auto show, the model with a  hybrid engine, that consists of 1.6 THP petrol engine developing 225hp (165kW) and 275Nm of torque, will be presented. The Watson table is named after James Watson, the American scientist famous for discovering the helical structure of DNA. I felt like a scientist developing this table, working through numerous controlled material experiments to achieve the desired result. The closer I came to the solution, the simpler the experiments became, and the final result is a wood-composite structure laminated over a simple 6-part plywood mold.

The form is inspired by English furniture of the late 1600′s, with its adderall mixed with cialis distinctive open wood turnings, sometimes called ‘barley twists’. I was interested in translating these twisting shapes into bold structural elements, for the purpose of experimenting with new combinations of materials and construction processes.

To use materials as efficiently as possible I abandoned a machining-based approach in favor of an ‘additive’ lamination process. I began to experiment with composite materials to give structural support to this naturally ‘springy’ form; the result is a combination of wood and carbon fiber, with a painted wood top. This composite ‘sandwich’ utilizes the inherent rigidity of carbon as a structural core, creating a symbiotic composition providing a maximum of strength using a minimum of material.
